My kids just got into Harry Potter and we watched the Goblet Of Fire the other day and Mad-Eye Moody was a main character in the movie. I remembered that he had a LEGO Minifig and so I looked him up. I actually got excited when I saw how great a figure it was, great detail.

In the spirit of the new flick we put together a custom version of The Terminator made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80's. He comes with a multiple Grenade Launcher (As seen in Terminator 2: Judgement Day) made by Brickarms and comes with an aternate head for a new look. I love these little dudes, they are totally original, have cool hinged mouths (great for crystals or dynamite) and they come in a variety of colors (Orange, Green, Blue, Red, and Neon Green). Nite Owl Debut

Nite Owl is finally complete! This is our fourth figure in the Watchmen set. It is kind of hard to see, but his torso is made with a metallic ink and it shines in the light, it turned out pretty well. The helmet was originally a helmet by BrickForge and was altered to get a more owlish look. Special thanks to Myron McMillin for his efforts and enthusiasm.

The next couple weeks are going to filled with big changes here at The Big Toy Hut. Most of which might go unnoticed to our customers and fans. For those of you who don't know , TBTH (The Big Toy Hut) is not a one man band, we are a small family operation. So when we want to do some changes it usually takes us a longer amount of time for them to development. We wanted to let everyone know that there is much more to come and that we hope everyone will be along for the ride (even if its more like a traffic jam than an Indy race). So to whet your appetite we have a sneak peak of whats to come....

Everyone seems to be curious about how we do things here so we thought that it would be fun to blog about it. It will hopefully include pics and videos as well as some interviews. Also we want to include a post featuring the evolution of a custom minifig, which will basically show our fans what steps we go through to make a custom fig (hint...its more than what you think).

So as you can see we are busy builders here. Please be patient with us as we try to improve. By the way in case you notice a distinct difference in blog post it's because both me (a chick) and my husband (a dude) write posts, answer emails, and work on TBTH. Which occasionally results in confusion (like a second email with similar information or what my husband considers a girly post). Thanks for your continual support and we welcome any ideas, suggestions, and comments.

A Zombie Apocolypse is coming to The Big Toy Hut!

To kick off our new zombie line we have combined three of our favorite things...LEGO, Zombies, and reader participation. The idea of the contest is to use LEGO to build a zombie scene or vignette, take a picture, then upload it to the Flickr Contest Group (Click here). Figures do not need to be from The Big Toy Hut, use your imagination! During the contest period we will post the pics as they are uploaded.

Contest Dates: March 15th - April 21st at 10 PM EST.

Grand Prize: Zombie Family Minifig Set with a Limited Edition Zombie Hunter ($50 value)

Contest Rules:
1. Your entry must be a completely new, original and is entirely your own work.
2. Must feature Zombies!!!
3. Must be appropriate for all audiences (If not, they will be removed)
4. Multiple entires are allowed (Maximum of 3) and must be different scenes.
5. No grainy photos, make sure people can see your scene clearly.
6. Anyone under the age of 18 must get parental permission to enter.

Sorry that its been a while since our last post. We are trying to get all of the art and pieces together to make a full 6 figure set from The Watchmen. The figures include Rorschach (finished), The Comedian (special details to be added), Night Owl, Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectre, and Ozymandias. I made some mockups of the figures but obviously they are just color schemes and not the actual faces and torsos so dont sass me about it. Hopefully they will be done by next week, stay tuned.

ZOMBIE ATTACK!

Zombies are the coolest. I decided to make these guys because I love anything zombie (The Walking Dead, World War Z, 28 Days Later, Day By Day Armageddon, and on and on...) and I thought it was time to make a squad of them. My guys are inspired by art by Andrew Bell that were featured in the "Back in the Day" retro-toy inspired art show in San Diego, CA in 2006.

Cool Figure Of The Week: Obi-Wan Kenobi with Light-Up Lightsaber

I think these light up figures are sweeeeeet. This guy is from Set 7257 - Ultimate Light saber Duel. The only drawbacks of the light up figures is that the heads seem to always feel really loose and spin around, and the light sabers are permanently attached to the figure. In a magical world they would make light up light sabers that were stand alone and any figure could hold. but that's just my fantasy.

Here is the final version of the first head in the series of Joker Thugs. The other three pics will hopefully be posted tonight. I chose not to make custom torsos for these characters yet, please no whining. Count Dooku Figure Released

The new Clone Wars version of Count Dooku has been released by LEGO in the Count Dooku's Solar Sailer Set 7752. It is labeled "Special Edition" so it looks like it will only be available at Toys R Us and on LEGO.com. I think the figure is pretty sweeeeeeet with the new hairpiece and they included his curved lightsaber hilt, a couple of Magnaguards are also included. The only problem is the set has a pretty big price tag, it has been reported as being $59.99 at TRU, but hopefully it will be cheaper on LEGO.com.

New Star Wars 2009 Sets in stores NOW!

I have found all of the new Star Wars LEGO sets at our local Toys R Us. If anyone has any questions about them, send me a message. So far, I have only opened up the new Clone Trooper Pack and the Assassin Droid Pack.
The Clone Trooper Pack (9/10 Rating) comes with 3 Clone Troopers (you can make one into the Clone Commander with the black visor and accessories) and 1 Gunner Clone (with awesome new gold painted helmet). The Walker that comes with set seems really well designed, it is quite small but, it has a cannon on front and 2 snap in rockets that LEGO loves to use now.

The Assassin Droid Pack (7/10 rating) comes with 5 droids in all (3 Silver and 2 Black Elite), the ship they come with is "OK" but the little blue pieces on the front fall off very easily which is kind of annoying. The cool thing about it is that all 5 droids come with blasters which is great for the army builder.

It will include the original Joker Mask and 4 new designs straight from the movie, my artist is all finished and I am printing and finishing them all up tonight. I LOVE IT, and it is only available (so far) in the LEGO Castle Advent Calender for 2008, which is only available in Europe and through the LEGO ambassador program here in the US (Boooo). So if you want one either wait until next year and cross your fingers, or find one on eBay RIGHT NOW, I only see about 3 on there.

While keeping up with the customs we are also trying new outlets to get the word out about our products. You can now see our work on YouTube, Flickr, eBay, Amazon, and of course this blog. If you have any suggestions on where else you might like to see our custom minifigs please let us know. If you ever wonder how we decide what minifig to do next, I'll let you in on a secret....its mostly on demand. Of course we have to look at the logistics on whether that figure would work on a minifig but for the most part it goes by requests. I spend countless hours trying to convince my husband to do certain characters (I spent 2 weeks convincing him to do The Dark Knight box set). Mainly because he doesn't think there is a demand for them. So if you want to see your favorite comic or movie character let us know (so I'm not the lone voice of inspiration (nagging)) Again thanks for all the support guys.

Free Lego Minifig Drawing

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week. We are trying to catch up on the box set sales. We also have received many requests that we are still working on. Please feel free to email us with any ideas or requests for lego minifigs. Its always interesting to see what characters are requested and how they might look as lego minifigs. In the next couple of weeks we will be working on our next box set (as soon as we decide what the theme will be). To encourage more communication and with fellow lego lovers The Big Toy Hut has decided to put the name of every person who leaves a comment on our blog, or sends us a comment in an email in a drawing to win a free custom minifig (our custom Cairo Indiana Jones) . The comment does not have to be positive. (We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions too). It will be completely random. If the person who wins does not want it we will choose another name. The LEGO Group made this prototype Indiana Jones Set. It looks like it would include Indy, German Mechanic, Marion Ravenwood, and a German Soldier. You can tell it is just a prototype because if you look close you can see the torso on the German Mechanic is actually Patrick Starfish (Hah!).

Heres a sneek peek at the Indiana Jones LEGO 2009 Set 7682 - Shanghai Chase. Arrival date is supposed to be in January 2009. This set is to include five new figures, Indy (Tuxedo Version), Short Round (Yay!), Willie Scott, and two Shanghai Thugs. Having 5 figures and 244 pieces it should retail between $19.99 USD and $29.99 USD.

We wanted to start a new feature called "Figure Of The Week" where we showcase one of our favorite minifigs and tell why we like it and ask for you to leave a comment about why you love it or hate it. So here we go, I LOVE this fig mainly because Frankenstein is my favorite Hollywood monster and LEGO made him kind of lovable with that little smirk on his face and that custom headpiece adds allot. He was only produced in 2002 and is exclusive to LEGO Studios Set 1382: Scary Laboratory.

New Castle Figures Revealed

At BrickCon 2008 a new LEGO Castle set was revealed that is going to be released in January 2008. This pic shows all of the minifigs from that set, including a couple of great female figs, a blacksmith, and the first cow, awesome.

Thanks everyone for your patience, the "Batman - The Dark Knight Boxed Set" is finally here. It includes twelve figures in all, including (starting on botton left) Two-Face, Batman, The Joker, Bruce Wayne, Nurse Joker, Lt. James Gordon, Rachel Dawes, Lucious Fox, Harvey Dent, Bank Robbery Thug, Alfred, and Police Disguise Joker. Ten out of the twelve figures are completely custom with art by Myron McMillin, and Albert Hernadi with some custom weapons from Brickarms. This is set is very limited edition (getting all of the pieces for this set has made my wife and I totally insane) and they will be available from our eBay store (link to the right) with 10% of all the proceeds are automatically donated to Toys For Tots. Thank you evryone for your support on this project and we hope you like it.

After many prototypes (and debates) The Joker , The Dark Knight Edition is finalized and up for sale in our Ebay shop. We will also be making two other variations of him. One will strictly be for our special cast box set (sand purple shirt w/vest instead of grey w/vest). The other will have different hair because of limited stock on this style. This edition of The Joker has a custom face, torso, and hair. The artwork for the face and torso decal was provided by our artist Myron McMillin. We are not sure how many of these will be available for purchase, it depends on the availability of supplies. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time and given us the awesome comments and feedback. We appreciate it and keep it in mind when working on new projects. Let us know what you think.
